Lost in Ontario: Three cabin getaways that are within an hour’s drive of Toronto

Lost in Ontario: Three cabin getaways that are within an hour’s drive of Toronto

Sometimes, a quick, effortless getaway is all you need to disconnect from the hustle and bustle of the city.  Here are three cabins (located just North of Toronto) that offer convenience for the busy city dweller in need of a break.

I love a good cabin getaway.  There’s no better feeling than unplugging from the daily city grind and escaping to a simpler life.  BBQ’s, hikes, the outdoors, fires and cozying up to a good book become the norm.  Whether it’s summer or winter, cabins are a way to hit the pause button and take a moment to reflect and exhale.  If your looking for a quick escape, here are three cabins to consider, all within an hour of Toronto.

Cabinonthe9

Cabinonthe9 has gained a lot of popularity in the past couple of years therefore snagging a night’s stay at this cabin, can be a little bit tricky.  My advice? Book far in advance or consider taking some time off in the middle of the week to increase your chances of finding a date.  Don’t let the winter dates discourage you. It’s the perfect time of the year to go.

You will truly feel like you are at a cabin far, far away.  The cabin is surrounded by a perfectly lined forest and a beautiful pond in front of it.  It’s a perfect little oasis.

While the summers here must be unbelievable, I experienced the cabin in the middle of the winter.  The pond in front of the cabin was frozen and the owners create an ice rink when the temperature allows for it.  Imagine: skating on your own private little ice rink in front of your perfect little cabin, sipping on warm mulled wine. It was a dream. Cabinonthe9 is a tiny gem and well worth the hype it gets.

Raven Cabin & Snake Cabin

Raven Cabin and Snake Cabin are two of three cabins located on a large 30-acre farm in Schomberg, Ontario.  The third cabin (not mentioned above) is Bear Cabin, and it is larger and better suited for families or larger groups.  These cabins are hidden gems and any time I look for dates, there are plenty of options available.  While the cabins are relatively close to each other in proximity, they are all private, surrounded by trees and overlooking beautiful ponds.

Both Raven and Snake cabins are similar and I stayed at Raven Cabin in the spring of 2018 and Snake Cabin in the middle of the summer of 2019.  All of the cabins come equipped with BBQs, basic dishware, and a fire pit.  My most recent stay at Snake cabin was incredible.  The day consisted of swimming in the large swimming pond, BBQing in front of the cabin while enjoying some charcuterie and cheese, a canoe ride through the tranquil lily pond, and a late night fire, roasting marshmallows.  The highlight was watching the fireflies at night, something I hadn’t experienced since my childhood.  Highly recommend these cabins and the price is right!
