Lost in Self Isolation: Four ways to treat your wanderlust blues

Lost in Self Isolation: Four ways to treat your wanderlust blues

1. Support local businesses by ordering international foods & pairing the food with wine/beer from that region
In the midst of this pandemic, many small businesses have been hit hard.  Try ordering food from different parts of the world and if you want to be even more adventurous, why not try a wine (or beer) from that region as well?  I was recently going through some photos from my recent trip to Portugal and that led me to ordering some Portuguese Chicken, which I paired with a nice red wine from Portugal.  It was the perfect wanderlust fix.

2. Virtual tours around the world
Go on a virtual tour at one of the several world-renowned museums including the Louvre in Paris where you can enjoy some famous works by Michelangelo or visit the Egyptian Antiques exhibit.  Google Arts & Culture allows you to tour some of the most famous museums as well as a road trip along the California coast. The perfect pick-me-up and inspiration for future travel ideas.

3. Start planning your next trip
While the world is at a standstill and there may not be any signs of travel in the near future, that shouldn’t stop you from planning ahead.  Now is the perfect time to plan.  Plan itineraries, research flight options, look up hotels.  That way, when all of this is over, you are well prepared for a trip of a lifetime.  Be sure to check out my travel planning tips!

4. Go on a live African Safari with Africam
I went on a safari several years ago and it was one of the most magical experiences to date.  I recently discovered Africam, and it is amazing.  There are several live, high tech cameras in the most remote locations of the country and while it does take some patience, it’s totally worth it.  You can hear the amazing wildlife and spot some incredible animals in real time.  I recently spent a morning watching a hippo in a water hole, two cats (I couldn’t quite make out the breed) playing in a tree and a few elephants drinking at a water hole.  There’s a certain feeling of being on a Safari as you wait patiently to spot an animal.  This is my new go-to during work breaks. If you have children, this is a great way to pass some time!
